However, some of us are anxious most of the time, and find everyday life a cause of worry. Others suffer from severe anxiety episodes which often result in panic attacks. These can be triggered by certain sights, smells or sounds such as being near water or the smell of burning. Whereas for others they are unable to pin point what causes the sweating, the palpitations, the difficulty in breathing and the uncontrollable anxiety.
As human animals we are designed to instinctively recognise and choose how to deal with danger through our adrenal system. This is commonly referred to as our ‘fight or flight’ mode and although heightened in wild animals such as deer we humans also have this instinct. When this instinct does not function properly for whatever reason then humans experience over anxiety; sub consciously they are sensing the potential for danger all the time or perceiving danger when there is none.
There are many ideas available in self help books or online with how to deal with your panic attacks or feelings of anxiety, but what if you could just stop feeling that way all together?

What is confidence anyway? How do you know when someone is at peace with themselves or just really good at ‘faking it until they make it’? Some of the most socially outgoing people I know have very low esteem and will be the first to admit that they are very good at putting on a brave face, shrugging life off with self-effacing humour, or by poking fun at others.
Real confidence comes from within, from a position of self-acceptance and self-love. It is not always possible to measures another’s confidence from their popularity, their social behaviour, their appearance or what others say about them. Confidence doesn’t have to shout or be surrounded by crowds; it is a calm, sense of inner knowing and self-recognition.
Truly confident people know their own strengths and weakness’. They offer to support to others and allow themselves to receive support when they need it. They accept themselves and recognise that if they make a mistake they can take responsibility for it, can learn from it and move forward without having to hold onto guilt or shame. They know their own mind without having to impose their beliefs on others, and they allow others to have their own opinions, without having to agree with them.
Some people are born with this self-esteem whereas most of us learn it as we go along. There are simple affirmations that can help. Telling yourself daily that your opinion matters, that you are worthy of recognition and that you have something to offer. Other people find it useful to make a list of all the ways in which they do feel confident and then another of the ways in which they are yet to feel fully confident. Assessing what they would need to do in order to feel more confident in these areas is a useful exercise to moving towards better self-esteem. Recognising that you have skills in some areas and not yet in others but that is okay, is a way to feel self-acceptance.
Confidence isn’t about being good at everything – it is about accepting the way you are now and recognising you can choose to reach a higher potential.
